PDFpen 12.1 Includes Page Label Support and More

PDFpen and PDFpenPro 12.1 now supports page labels, making it easier to view and navigate documents which have a mixture of different page numbering formats.

PDFpen and PDFpenPro 12.1 makes it easier to view and navigate documents which have a mixture of different page numbering formats. For instance, your document’s table of contents and foreword may be numbered with lowercase Roman numerals (i.e. i, ii, iii…), but the body may be numbered with Arabic numerals (i.e. 1, 2, 3…). Version 12.1 now supports page labels, enabling users to search a document by its actual page numbering scheme—whether Roman or Arabic numerals or something else—provided the author (or publisher) included page labels to describe the page numbering format.

Need to produce high-quality, professional business reports or academic papers? PDFpenPro users can:

  • Add page labels to documents that do not yet have page labels
  • Modify page labels for documents that have been altered

Readers of your document will be able to smoothly browse and search using Adobe Reader, Preview, or any other PDF viewer that supports page labels.

New in PDFpen 12.1:

  • Displays page labels
  • Edit page labels (PDFpenPro only)
  • Various fixes and improvements

If a document has page labels, that document’s page numbering scheme will display in the Sidebar > Thumbnails view. You can get to a specific page in one of two ways.

To go to a specific page through the menu:

  1. Choose Go > Go to Page
  2. Type in a page number— i.e. i,ii,iii or 1,2,3 or a,b,c
  3. Select “Go to” or press Enter/Return on your keyboard

To go to a specific page through the toolbar:

  1. Type a specific page number in the Page field to get to the page you want.

If you delete a page or reorder pages in the document, the page labels will automatically adjust in accordance with your edits.

To add or edit page labels:

  1. Choose Edit > Headers, Footers, Page Numbers > Insert...
  2. Select “All” or a range of pages “From” and “To.”
  3. Select a page numbering format from the list i.e. None, Roman, Arabic numerals from the list

This ensures that page numbers displayed on thumbnails are identical to the actual page numbering on a document, providing a consistent experience for recipients.
