
Have you ever wanted to perform OCR on all pages in your PDF and not just one? If you're looking for document wide actions, not just single page actions, we've go you covered. The Option key is used in PDFpen and PDFpenPro to make a menu command apply to an entire document.
The Option Key
English language keyboards tend to have the word "option" on the key, often with "alt" above it for the Windows users. Other keyboard variants use the option key symbol: ⌥
Page Operations
By default, these commands operate on the currently selected page:
- Crop Page to Selection
- OCR Page…
- Clear OCR Layer on Page
- Headers, Footers, Page Numbers -> Remove Page Header
- Headers, Footers, Page Numbers -> Remove Page Footer
- Create Form Fields for Page… (PDFpenPro only)
Document Operations
When you hold the Option key (⌥), these commands change to operate on the entire document:
- Crop Document to Selection

Hold the Option key while the Edit menu is being displayed, and you'll see the names of the menu items change in real time.
