Here’s how to run Mac apps on Windows—try it with PDFpen!
Did you want to try PDFpen, but gave up when you found out our software is just for Macs?
If so, we hope you’ve found a good alternative for Windows. But if you are still curious about PDFpen, here’s something to try: running PDFpen on your Windows computer.
In this article, we show you how to run Mac apps on your Windows 10 machine.
How to run Mac apps on Windows: Option 1
1. Create a macOS virtual machine
To run macOS on your Windows 10 computer, you first need to install a virtual machine. The virtual machine will enable you to use “Mac-only” apps such as PDFpen.
Installing it takes a bit of time, but it is not difficult to do. For step-by-step instructions, check out this tutorial.
2. Log into your Apple account
Log into your Apple account to download PDFpen from the App Store.
3. Download PDFpen
Once you sign into your account, you’ll have access to all the apps in the App Store.
Choose App Store from either Finder or the Dock at the bottom of your screen. You might have to retype your Apple ID credentials.
Find PDFpen in the App Store. Select Get, then Install. When PDFpen is done installing, choose Open. You should be able to use PDFpen on your Windows computer from here on.
4. Save your virtual machine session
When you’re done using PDFpen, save your macOS virtual machine session. To do that, select the Apple logo, then choose Shut Down. This will prompt the Mac operating system to close, followed by the virtual machine.
How to execute Mac apps on Windows: Option 2
If you have an older Windows computer that cannot run a macOS virtual machine on it, you can try using a cloud-based macOS environment.
macOS environments are designed for developers to test their apps, but there is nothing stopping you from using a macOS environment to run an existing app.
Note that there is a charge for using macOS environments and there will likely be a delay between your system and the cloud server.
